Dan Bradley
WHO BE ME?06 Jan 2010 6:25PMHey folks; allow me to attempt to introduce myself.

Aside from the people I train with, friends I direct to this page, and members of certain internet forums; many of you won’t have a clue who I am. This is ok, cause I’m not entirely sure myself.

I’m Dan Bradley; I train out of SBG Manchester, Moss Side Boxing Club and Master A Muay Thai (Though I’m on downtime till February)

My preference lies in the stand-up side of the game, but I’m determined to get myself a new BJJ belt by the end of ’10...or at least improve my ground skills to a decent competition level. I’m currently floating around Lightweight, but am currently moving to Featherweight.

Most of my blogs will be based around my training and my thoughts and opinions on MMA/ Muay Thai/ Boxing related topics.

Thanks to the heavy snowfall, I’m currently spending most of my days watching Family Guy, growing a beard and doing chin ups on my stairs. Old school!
New Year, New You?06 Jan 2010 6:30PMLet me guess; over Christmas, inbetween wolfing down the mince pies and cheese and crackers, you leant across the table to your brother in law, and said “in the new year, I’m going back to the gym!”, for the first time that year you weren’t self conscious about having a belly, and would even admit to yourself that you were a “little out of shape”, without deluding yourself that you were built like a modern day Adonis; because you were going back to the gym. That’s right; WERE.

Truth is, gyms and health clubs make a killing at the start of each year when Thousands of people join up, sign contracts and part with plastic or cash to start the first steps on their road to fitness.  Most, if not all, at that time; genuinely think they’ll stick with it. Sadly; most do NOT.

For the first few weeks; they attend the gym religiously, working hard with an (often ill defined) goal in mind. Most health & fitness clubs are busier than MMA gyms on UFC weekend.

But, come February; the majority of these people have gone. Often slipping into old habits, brought on by the notion of “I’m sore, I’ll take a week off and go back” when a week turns into 2, 3, 4...or the lack of visible results (you won’t suddenly end up with biceps like Branch Warren after 2 days of bicep curls!).  After just a month of motivation; you’re back infront of the tv with a kebab and a can of Stella. The road to hell is paved with good intentions...

Sadly, the key to success is often overlooked by people starting a fitness regime; they spend hours looking up workout regimes and planning what to wear to the gym...but they never take just half an hour to plan the things that REALLY matter. Fact of the matter is, the physical training aspect is just a minor part of the whole picture.

    So....what SHOULD I plan?

1. Define Your Goals (Simply “to get fit” doesn’t cut it; it’s far too vague)
2. Plan your Nutrition (You CANNOT out train a bad diet)
3. “Plan” your rest (This is not as simple as “sleep at night”)
4. Train Smart (simply lifting the heaviest weight till your arms give out is not smart and will not give you the best results!)

Next time, I’ll get into these 4 points in depth...
