I managed to take the silver at the Grappler's Showdown last week which is as much as I had hoped so am chuffed. I was less chuffed that I weighed in at 79 kg on the day. My opponents were 57 kg and 50 kg which was less than ideal. The 57 kg opponent was highly experienced and also a dear friend so I knew she trained with bigger men and women though the girl at 50 kg was fairly new to the sport. The womens division had only 3 of us so the matches were not ideal in terms of size or experience.

You can actually see my hips high in the air against the 50 kg girl, Sophia and my corner is telling me to base but being conscious of the 30 kg weight advantage I was determined to try and keep the match as fair and technical as possible. I managed to get a side choke to win the round. I was extremely impressed with Sophia's spirit in competing against both size (me) and experience (Kath). She will definitely go far in mma which she is hoping to compete in.

Kath was the match that had me scared since she is a lot more experienced and a really good friend. I was keen to do well even if I didn't win the match but also worried about injuring her since the match would be more competitive since I knew she was highly experienced and I was still 20 kg heavier. I was happy with my performance and actually managed to go the distance despite two submission attempts (one that nearly had me tap). I was also genuinely glad for Kath whem she took the gold and relieved that our friendship reamained unchanged.

In other news, I caught up with the lads at Watford's Survival FC and it looks like I'll be on their September fight card. The opponent has yet to be announced to be announced but I have my eye on two light weights so will be losing these pesky 9 kg just in time for summer. I also finally managed to get my fight footage :
