sorry it’s taken me so long to write this up but as the title suggests….i’ve been lazy as hell and any free time I have had i’ve been using to eat a lot of cake. nomnomnom…photos of awesome cake to follow
for those of you interested…i won my fight. it went late into the second round and just after being fedor’d i secured a ’baby Jesus choke’ victory.
kinda like this but less BJ Penn and more DJ Reilly
I had originally intended on writing this on a wave of emotion and euphoria upon winning the fight but it would’ve read like a halle berry Oscar acceptance speech so fuck that.
speaking of halle berry…
shamelessly stolen idea....
moving swiftly on……i really enjoyed the fight with Pete and i was glad that i got tested
I was really nervous on the day of the fight , i’d won all my previous fights inside the first round and i knew that this time around i was facing a much more experienced fighter who had been in with some tough guys….my team mate John Cullen said that he was one of the toughest guys he’s fought…and John is a psycho….
Grabbed Lovey early doors and told him how i was feeling and that i needed his help to hype me up a bit. Got some awesome verbal from him before starting the warm up drills that we go through……felt increasingly better as i warmed up…hitting hard and moving smoothly all culminating in having a quick dance then for some reason shouting…’LETS GET F*CKING MENTAL!!’ before bombing off down the stairs.
I was confident that i knew what Pete was goin to come at me with.Mostly right hands, inside or outside low kicks and look for the takedown and to take my back.
He pretty much did all of this :P I’d been working my takedown defence pretty well in training however during the fight i wasnt level changing and just using the underhook to try defend…in the ‘arm v whole body’ contest there’s only ever goin to be one winner…feck.
after a bad start i managed to get top and work some ground and pound for the rest of the round.really enjoyed my first experience of punching and elbowing someone on the ground…..it definately something i can get into :D looking back i feel a should’ve been more active on top but at the time i was trying to make sure i didnt make any silly mistakes and lose position or to overly gas myself out
Into the second round i got my ass taken down again…..Pete managed to get a few good positions on me but at no time did i really feel that i was in a lot of trouble…..was disappointed in my inability to hold half guard as its something i’m usually good at in training…..i was possibly trying to stand up to eagerly.hopefully won’t make the same mistake again though.
after briefly regaining top position i ended up on the bottom in half guard again…thankfully this time i manged to pull off a pretty nice sweep and from there ended up standing back up.
I couldnt believe how tired i was feeling……so i made a telepathic agreement with Pete that we move about a wee bit and get our gas back…..was nice of him to agree to that i thought. After our quick break Pete again tried to take me down but this time i caught him with a short right uppercut as he came in…stuffed the takedown and climbed onto his back.
Now as i did this i remember thinking…..’shit…….prob not the best idea here……i’m gonna get launched on my head…..’
I was not to be disappointed….despite trying to make myself like rucksack i landed square in the top of my skull…smashing…..had a brief flash…kinda like when your telly goes all interference then started working for the choke.
felt awesome to get my second pro win…..and i was glad that so many people enjoyed the fight.
it was a great day for the gym overall…JoJo Calderwood won a euro thai title,John Cullen avenged his loss to Steve McCombe in spectacular fashion, plus a few other guys from the gym got great results also.
Spent the evening at Casa De McVeigh/Rodgers eating pizza and trying to put classic britpop on the telly before crashing out on the floor and eventually getting a taxi home.
The next day was frankie’s birthday so we went to Edinburgh for lunch then back to Glasgow for family dinner
after dinner we had the most awesome cake…..pictures speak a thousand words so here you go………..
i’ll leave you with that….next blog i’ll have news on my next opponent/times/dates/places
