Braulio Estima seminar
Blyth
Northumberland
Jan 9th 2010
Braulio Estima strikes again adding another gold to his collection of most valuable medals, that being world champion at his weight, on June 7th in Long Beach, California.
The team down at Strike-UK, Blyth, Northumberland, thought now is better than ever to get the 3 x world champion (2004-2006-2009) into the club to get the champ in to do a seminar. Braulio is one of the hottest names in town right now, with him just adding to his medals, but he is also said to be an excellent instructor too.
The seminar had great interest from all local clubs, ranging from white belts through to brown belts. There was also confirmation that clubs as far as Gracie Barra Leeds were attending the day.
The week due closer and the weather was like nothing the UK had seen before. There were drastic levels of snow and ice on the roads, stopping people travelling and public transport including the trains. Despite this there was a great turn out, but the time come to the seminar and the only guy missing was Braulio himself. His train was delayed and had to change several times to get here. After the whole panic was over, we got down to doing some serious training.
The class decided we would split into to two groups, gi and no-gi. The reason we done this are so that in each group we could do a full sequence. The gi class started from spider guard, moving onto a pass, sweep then the submission. Braulio’s attention to detail was excellent, making sure that everyone in the class had it 100%.
The no-gi worked side control, doing a number of escapes leading to submissions and finishing with sweeps from closed guard. Braulio’s no-gi work was very simple but effective; this meant that all levels could understand his nifty little moves.
Then, it was time to put the work into action. He lined the whole class up; giving everyone numbers 1, 2 and 3. Then he would call one of the numbers, they would lie on their back, and the rest of the class had to pass there guard, while the guy on the floor would sweep or sub you. Everyone started in the same position, being what we have just learned. Braulio also took part in the game, making sure everyone had a chance to roll with him. Braulio never even broke out a sweat, showing how effortless and efficient bjj is and his expertise. In a matter of minutes, there was over 30 students just been triangled, and no body knew how it happened, and all amazed.
All too soon, the seminar comes to an end and it was time for him to go. He finished up with a great inspirational talk, which hit a lot of the students, mentioning how anyone can become the best, its just how hard you work for it, also how the closest black belts to where he learned was a 3 hour flight. A special thanks to Strike-UK, Braulio and all the attendees for making it happen. He will be back in the near future.
Braulio Estima; Great champ, Great guy, Great coach.
