Fight IKON 3: Review 12 Jul 2010

By Dean Weir

Ikon nightclub in Bolton again played host to Sherlock Promotions third instalment of "Fight IKON". A great nights entertainment was had by all, not just from the sixteen fights that were on the card, but also by vocalist "The Great WHite Hope" and dance trio "Fort Fresh", who kept the action going during the breaks.

The main event saw unbeaten Eugene Fadiora take the ISKA British Welterweight Title with a dominant performance over Matt Inman. Fadiora lost his balance with his first attempted kick and ended up on the floor. Inman looked to take advantage but ended up on his back with Fadiora on top from where he showed some excellent ground and pound to which Inaman had little, or, no answer. The referee eventually calling a stop to the fight after 4 minutes of the first round.

The other three Professional bouts on the card also ended in the first round with excellent performances from the three victors. Billy "The Kid" Glossop forcing the referee to end Chris Clarke's punishment from ground and pound, Shay Walsh eventually gaining the standing Rear Naked Choke on the very game Danny Welsh in what was a very fast paced contest and Leeroy Barnes punished Ben Abbot with numerous viscous elbows which forced Abbot to tap.

Eight semi-pro bouts also provided some very entertaining match-ups.
Leigh Wood made an impressive pro debut with a first round, right uppercut, KO of fellow debutant Wesley O'Connor. James Burrows added to his unbeaten pro record with a first round KO stoppage of Chris Coltrane, also with a well executed uppercut.

The huge Nathan Brown showed good ground skills for such a big man with a 53 second armbar submission over Ashleigh Spencer and Dave Garvey impressed the judges enough to take a unanimous decision over Chris Webb.

Kostadin Toychev and James Sherwin gave everything in their battle with both gaining successful takedowns, a constant battle for control on the ground with numerous submission attempts before Toychev eventually forcing Sherwin to tap to a tight heel hook in the second round.

Team Colosseum's Saul Rogers continued to show why he remains a great prospect with another excellent victory over a very game opponent in Gray Mayanika. A very dominant first round show of ground control continued into the second round before Rogers sunk in a very quick triangle after just 26 seconds.

Daniel Harwood came out the victor in his fast paced and entertaining battle with Scott Rogers. A second round rear naked choke giving Harwood his first win at semi-pro.

Liverpool MMA debutant Mike Nicholson walked away with his first win after a first submission of Adam Hodgson.

The nights four Amateur bouts got the night underway and showed that the future really is bright for UK MMA. Sam Hodgin gave an excellent performance in his first round win, Coeray Chalmers after being dominated in round 1 came back to gain a second round submission victory, Lee Whitehead also gained a submission win and John Wells ground out a unanimous points decision over Bukie Dunn.
