Paul McVeigh: I'll also be on the look out for Lasers against Sitenkov 15 Jul 2010 By Chris Shanks

Paul McVeigh took the time to speak to MMA Hit Pit and give his thoughts on his upcoming fight with Artemij Sitenkov at Cage Contenders V on 24th July in Dublin.

You are fighting Sitenkov on the 24th. What type of threat does he pose?

Well apart from all his Armbars and kneebars and stuff. He also looks a bit like a bond villain. So I suppose I'll also be on the look out for Lasers, bad dialogue and armies of minions who can't aim.

How are you altering your training to deal with your opponent can you go into some detail about this?
I don't really have access to lasers so I'm stumped there and my James Bond witty one liners are a bit lacking. So Instead I concentrated on being really good at fighting.

Stienkov beat your team mate James Doolan. Is there some bad blood because of this and does the need to win mean more?
Nah, obviously I was gutted but it's not like he stole anything from anyone or called my mum a skank. We are both professionals. It's just a fight. Although the thought of fighting back home does give me a bit of a semi.

When, MMA Hit Pit caught up with Sitenkov. He said that he got lucky to tap out your team mate. Do you think he can get lucky again?
Yes.... Come on dude your not even trying with this question. I'll translate it "Paul do you think Artemij will kick your balls in?" my obvious answer is hell nah foo!

I've been preparing for his game as he has surely been preparing for mine.

How do you see the fight going on the 24th, do you think it will go all the way and if it did, are you ready?

Yeah I'm always fit to fight. Apart from one horrendous case of jet lag combined with an equally horrendous weight cut I've never got tired in a fight. I'm confident I can finish him. Right now I'm the best version of me anyone has ever seen. I am supremely confident in my abilities and I'm looking forward to competing.

You are fighting for a championship. What will it mean to you, to become the champ?
I already have a bunch of organisation titles. It's the opponent that interests me the most in this one. Although chicks dig belts so getting a nice one is sweet.

The fight is being dubbed the biggest Bantamweight fight in European MMA history? When a fight is hyped like that, do you get nervous?
What the fuck who said that? Oh talk about piling on the pressure, I don't need this shit, next thing you'll tell me is that people will be watching and I'll have to be topless. Oh the shame.

Nah I don't really get nervous, just excited. I really like hurting people so anytime someone pays me to assault someone it's a good day.
