Quick Interview with Tom "Kong" Watson
30 Jul 2010
Tom "Kong" Watson took the time out to speak to MMA Hit Pit about Jesse Taylor and his UNC title hopes for this year.
Hey Tom thank for speaking to MMA Hit Pit, you are coming off the win on Saturday for the ISKA belt. You said after the fight that it wasn't your best performance, why do you feel this?
A lot of people only critique their performance when they lose, I felt although I won the fight I fought very sloppy and wild and didn't bring many of the new skills I have developed in the last year since I fought full thai rules.
You are unbeaten in 4 years, does that put any added pressure on you?
Whenever you fight full time for your living there is pressure. I don't worry about losing as in life its inevitable we'll all face these periods where things don't go our way. I can feel myself improving and learning every fight and that makes me happy.
You are fighting Jesse Taylor at MFC 26 in September what type of threat does he pose?
He is one of the top wrestlers fighting at middleweight within MMA with also a very solid ground game. He has been around all the big shows and I think he helps me improve again to the next level. Any fight I have now is going to be against dangerous opponents.
How do you see the fight ending up? are you confidant that your hand will be raised at the end of the night?
I wouldn't turn up to the fight if I didn't believe my hand will be raised. Somehow I will find a way to win this fight and move on in my career.
Just a couple of weeks later you are fighting Alex Reid at BAMMA 4. Is your plan to stay as active as you can?
I have always tried to stay active. I used to compete in boxing and sometimes fight 4 times a month. It helps u stay sharp and keep your mind in the right place.
Is there any plans for you to defend your Ultimate Nugget Championship belt in the future??
There will be a UNC showdown within the next few months, the challengers are assembling around the world and we'll see what they've got come nugget time..
