Shaun Lomas Disappointed With Manuwa Stoppage 09 Dec 2009 By Dean Parr

In the last couple of weeks, Shaun Lomas has been in two high profile fights. One was a split decision victory over undefeated Wolfslair fighter Tony Moran, while last Saturday, he fought Jimi Manuwa for the UWC Light-Heavyweight Title, although he lost that one in the first round. Lomas caught up with MMA Hit Pit to discuss these encounters, and what the future brings for him.

It was when talking about his favourite ever fight to take part in that Lomas beamed "I had a war a couple of weeks ago against Tony Moran. We went the distance and that was a crazy fight."

He then mused "It was a tough one. At the end of the second round, everything was the wrong way round. I was looking at what I thought was the cage door, and it was on the other side. I was looking for my corner as well but they were in the wrong place too! I was very glad to win that one."

Lomas was also full of praise for the loser Moran, who had a rib cracked in the first round courtesy of a Lomas knee. He said "Yeah, he was definitely a warrior. He was still coming out strong for the whole fight, so yeah, it was good."

The stand-up specialist wasn't quite as effusive about his recent Light Heavyweight Title fight against Manuwa, although at the same time he wasn't trying to make any excuses for the result.

He declared "I weighed in at 91 kilos with all of my clothes on, and I was 87 this morning when I woke up, so I was obviously quite a bit smaller. The thing is though, he stopped me with ground and pound, which usually I can get out of. I got out of it the first time, but the second time, he was doing something weird with his arms - I'm not sure exactly what he was doing, and he managed to stop me."

Shaun continued "I was reversing him though, and I thought I could take his shots; his shots were OK for a while, then all of a sudden, I went a little bit dizzy, but then I thought 'right, I'll give him my back so he'll do a rear naked choke', because I knew I could get out of that. So I gave him my back, but then the referee just stopped it when I turned."

This is by no means the end for the warrior who claims to have once fought six times in eight days (including Muay Thai and unlicensed boxing fights too). "I'm not sure exactly how long I'll carry on for; I'll have to see, because I want to try and get a title in MMA, defend my title and things like that. I want to get one at middleweight though, because Light Heavy is a bit heavy for me to be honest."

Lomas also told of his teaching, and said that if anyone in the Sheffield area wants to learn full MMA, or Muay Thai/MMA stand-up to ring him on 07771881992, as he teaches at the Sheffield Fitness Club (opposite Central Library) and the Knox Boxing Gym. Furthermore, any fighters that want to fight regularly, just like Shaun, should ring the number, because he's training his fighters up to do just that. Finally, he is a strong advocate of the 'Herbal Life' range of supplements, and reckons that they, as well as his training are why he has so much stamina. Anyone who wants advice on this can also ring him.
