Ultimate Challenge MMA: Ressurection, Weigh ins

Dean Amasinger was in confident mood ahead of his welterweight title clash with London Shootfighter, Alberto Mina at Ultimate Challenge: Resurrection on Saturday night. Asked whether he was concerned about Mina’s relentless takedown attempts, the Rough Huse fighter was resolute.
“I am completely confident in my wrestling. He tries to get people down, but I think my wrestling is at a pretty good level, I’ve been training with wrestlers in Manchester – my straight wrestling is pretty good. If I wasn’t doing MMA, I’d possible compete in that, I’m really confident that I can dictate where the fight goes tomorrow. If I want to keep it standing, I can; if I want to take it to the floor, I will.”
Though he was not available for comment at the time, no doubt Mina will have something to say about that statement come fight time.
Dave O’Donnell promised a ‘proper tear up’ as he introduced teak tough brawler, Mark ‘The Beast’ Epstein and UFC legend, Mark ‘The Wizard’ Weir. Epstein’s words echoed the ‘Resurrection’ label on this show, as he announced a new found passion for fight sports.
“I am very excited! The desire went away for a little while, for a couple of years… then someone came into my life and re-ignited the flame. Hopefully tomorrow night, you’re going to see the results of that. I’m going to have a few fights this year, definitely.
“I’ve done lots of training with Kieran Keddle, lots of Thai – and training with Andy Mayo, watched my diet and done loads of cardio. It was hard over Christmas, but we’re professionals, you’ve got to make the weight.”
In a surprise announcement, following his signing for the MFC promotion, Tom Watson has vacated his Ultimate Challenge middleweight title, leading O’Donnell to reveal that the winner of this fight will face Tsunami gym representative Jack ‘The Stone’ Mason for the Challenge title on March 27th.
Former middleweight and ground fighting specialist, John Maguire claimed to have had no trouble dropping the extra pounds as he aims to make a run at the welterweight title. “It was easy,” he laughed “I just had to lay off the doughnuts. They had to lock them away from me!”
As ever, his opponent, Edgelson Lua turned up in incredible condition and looked determined to return to winning ways after dropping his last match to main event fighter, Alberto Mina.
